Water Supply Analysis

Many municipalities in BC require buildings to comply with the Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS) guide for water supply for firefighting. In larger cities and urban areas, compliance with the FUS guide is not usually an issue; however, in certain areas on the island and in remote areas that do not have an abundant water supply it will be challenging to meet the FUS guide.

When a building cannot meet FUS without major infrastructure improvements, Ratio Code Consultants can review the building characteristics and the FUS guide to determine a water supply that meets the BC Building Code and the sprinkler demand in accordance with NFPA 13.

The water supply for firefighting can be determined using a number of different methodologies such as NFPA 1142, NFPA 13, NFPA 14, and NFPA 22.  The Alberta Building Code and Ontario Building Code also include methodologies for calculating water supply.

If your project is in an area where the water supply may be a concern, Ratio can provide the analysis that can help your project.
